In October 2018, 3 of our students took part in this year’s SASCAL Youth Speaks Competition in which 14 schools from across Stoke on Trent also competed. They successfully made it through to the final (with another 5 schools) which took place on Thursday 17th January at the Stoke on Trent Sixth Form College. Ashley took on the role of Main Speaker, Jade took on the role of Chair Person and Thomas took on the role of Vote of Thanks. Ashley delivered a polished and comedic speech entitled: ‘Oh, I Wanna Dance with Somebody!’ which was all about the power of dance and the positive impact it can have on people’s lives. Furthermore, we are delighted to announce that they were also successful at this stage in the competition and are this year’s joint winners, alongside St. Peter’s Academy, of the SASCAL Youth Speaks Competition 2019. Our students will now go on to compete against 3 other schools in the regional competition in Penkridge on Monday 4th March.
Mr Fitzgibbon, Miss Gardner and students
We are extremely proud of these students and they should be congratulated for this fantastic achievement. It has taken much preparation and dedication for the students involved and for Miss S Gardner, our Director of Literacy, who has supported our students through this competition process, so we are thrilled with how their immense hard work has paid off. We wish our students the best of luck in the next stage of the competition!
