World Book Day on Thursday saw the academy host a number of successful activities to celebrate, and engage students in, the love of reading.
Year 7 students listened attentively to local author and poet, Glenn James, telling one of his fantasy stories featuring some Tunstall landmarks! Year 8 students heard Glenn share stories of his great grandfather’s experiences of World War 1.
Students throughout the academy took part in a ‘guess the staff #shelfie’ quiz during their Personal Tutor time and the overall theme of the day was The Hunger Games.
Extracts from the The Hunger Games, written by Suzanne Collins, were read to Year 9, 10 and 11 students during each lesson starter, and designated Tributes (students) were set the task of answering questions from the text.
The OHA library also became The Hunger Games arena with lots of students coming along to test their survival skills and pick up a little treat for doing so.
Overall, it was a great World Book Day!
