Admissions process & criteria

Arrangements for applications for places at the Ormiston Horizon Academy will be made in accordance with the Local Authority’s co-ordinated admission arrangements and will be made on the Common Application Form provided by the Local Authority.

Where the number of places for admission is greater that the published admissions number, applications will be considered against the criteria below. After the admission of students with statements of Special Educational Needs where the Ormiston Horizon Academy is named on the statement, those children in public care (looked after children) the criteria will be applied in the order in which they are set out below.

  1. Students who have an older sibling already in attendance at the academy when the application is made and who will still be in attendance at the proposed admission date.
  2. Students for whom a place is essential on medical or social grounds and supported in writing by a medical practitioner or social worker (applications are subject to verification by the chair of governors)
  3. Distance between the home address and the academy as measured in a straight line from the centre point of the home address to the centre point of the academy using the Local Authority’s computerised measuring system, with those living closer to the academy receiving higher priority.
