Welcome to the catering area of the Ormiston Horizon Academy website.
A quick introduction is called for; I am John Whittle or Chef Jon and I am the Director of Catering here at the academy. I’ve been a chef for over 28 years and my passion for food started whilst I was at high school in my home economics class. Opportunities have led me to work in pubs, restaurants, health care establishments, industrial contract catering and the education sector (there was even time to work for the mighty Potters too). I have been fortunate enough recently to compete in chef competitions at a national level and to be able to work with the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts on their Adopt a Chef scheme, which sees professional chefs visiting schools to deliver sessions on healthy eating.
I draw my inspiration for menus and food offerings from what I see happening on the high street, which I believe we can replicate here in the academy, with the growing trend for street food, and the products that we see out there, being sold on our shelves too. We will be bringing in new items and food concepts as the year moves on.
